The organisation said the move would help reduce consumers\u2019 costs in powering their appliances in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Director General of SON, Farouk Salim, said this at the commissioning and launch of the AC Bioclimatic Testing Chamber, co-funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/theelectricityhub.com\/?s=EU\">European Union (EU) <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/theelectricityhub.com\/?s=GIZ\">German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) <\/a>in Lagos. He said the facility is coming when Nigeria is struggling with energy shortages. The director added that SON is willing to support any initiative to ensure Nigeria promotes the use of <a href=\"https:\/\/theelectricityhub.com\/?s=energy-saving\">sustainable energy efficiency systems.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Director General, represented by the Director of Product Certification, SON, Tersoo Orngudwem, said, \u201cThis is why we are partnering with the Nigeria Energy Support Programme (NESP) to ensure this comes to reality. We are using this opportunity to encourage Nigerians to use only energy-friendly devices in their houses. In a short while, the Director General, SON, will be announcing the importation of non-energy-friendly equipment in our environment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He further said that SON would give a timeframe for phasing out non-energy-friendly equipment. \u201cThere are market forces and trends determined by the World Trade Organisation (WTO). We cannot just change a policy overnight. We will give a timeframe for phasing out the equipment and publicly announce it. This is so that the importers, manufacturers and consumers know when they will start having the right thing in the market,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Director General said that the launch represents a significant leap in the field of testing, particularly in the areas of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), specifically for testing air conditioning systems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has urged Nigerians to discourage using non-energy-friendly equipment.
