The 200 MW\/400 MWh energy storage project, the largest electrochemical storage facility in Shandong, is now operational, marking a significant milestone for the region’s energy storage sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As one of the province’s key projects, the station spans approximately 61 acres and represents an investment of CNY 1.26 billion ($170 million). It integrates cutting-edge<a href=\"https:\/\/theelectricityhub.com\/?s=+hybrid+storage+technology\"> hybrid storage technology<\/a>, combining 60 battery systems of 3.35 MW\/6.7 MWh capacity with a 3 MW\/6-minute supercapacitor system, PCS systems, main transformers, and a step-up substation. During off-peak hours, the system harnesses surplus grid energy, enhancing overall efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The inclusion of supercapacitors provides distinct advantages. With exceptional power density and rapid charge-discharge capabilities, these devices can swiftly respond to grid demands. Their ultra-long lifespan, capable of 100,000 charge-discharge cycles\u201450 times that of conventional lithium-ion batteries\u2014boosts reliability. Additionally, supercapacitors boast energy conversion efficiency exceeding 90 per cent and an environmentally friendly profile. By blending supercapacitors with traditional electrochemical storage, the system achieves both high energy density and fast response times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the project’s launch, it is expected to deliver over 300 full charge-discharge cycles annually. Services provided include peak shaving, frequency regulation, backup power, black start capabilities, and demand response, significantly enhancing grid stability and integrating <a href=\"https:\/\/theelectricityhub.com\/?s=clean+energy\">clean energy<\/a> in Shandong. The project’s flexibility and rapid response capabilities are anticipated to improve energy efficiency and optimise the regional energy mix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Planning is already underway for the project’s second phase, adding 120 MW\/240 MWh of capacity. With administrative approval secured, the expansion will feature 36 additional battery systems, further boosting storage capabilities. Longyuan Power envisions expanding its footprint in energy storage with future installations in the area,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ess-news.com\/2024\/12\/06\/major-supercapacitor-hybrid-energy-storage-project-comes-online-in-china\/\"> reinforcing<\/a> its commitment to sustainable energy
