{"id":99105,"date":"2025-01-21T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-01-21T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theelectricityhub.com\/?p=99105"},"modified":"2025-01-21T11:37:34","modified_gmt":"2025-01-21T10:37:34","slug":"malaysia-opens-bidding-for-2-gw-of-large-scale-solar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theelectricityhub.com\/malaysia-opens-bidding-for-2-gw-of-large-scale-solar\/","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia Opens Bidding for 2 GW of Large-Scale Solar"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Malaysia\u2019s Energy Commission has launched an open tender seeking 2 GW of large-scale solar projects, with capacities ranging from 10 MW to 500 MW.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The first package is for ground-level solar power plants with a capacity of 30 MW to 500 MW, offering a total quota of 1.5 GW.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Malaysia\u2019s Energy Commission has launched an open tender seeking 2 GW of large-scale solar projects, with capacities ranging from 10 MW to 500 MW, to support the nation\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/theelectricityhub.com\/?s=clean+energy+transition\">clean energy transition<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malaysia&#8217;s Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (Petra) has announced an additional bidding round under its Large-Scale Solar (LSS) program for the development of 2 GW of PV power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the second LSS bid in less than 12 months after Petra conducted a&nbsp;round of bidding&nbsp;for the development of 2 GW of large-scale solar in April 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, Petra said it is confident the large-scale solar program will significantly contribute to the country\u2019s\u00a0energy transition\u00a0aspiration to increase the renewable energy capacity mix in the country\u2019s electricity supply system to 70 per cent by 2050.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This additional quota offer will be allocated under two packages. The first package is for ground-level solar power plants with a capacity of 30 MW to 500 MW, offering a total quota of 1.5 GW. The second package is for floating or water-based <a href=\"https:\/\/theelectricityhub.com\/?s=Solar\">solar<\/a> projects, with a total quota of 500 MW. The capacity range open for bidding under this package is between 10 MW and 500 MW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe solar power plants to be approved under this additional round of bidding are scheduled to start operations in 2027,\u201d Petra said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Request for proposal (RFP) documents are now available online via the Energy Commission\u2019s website. Submission of completed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pv-magazine.com\/2025\/01\/21\/malaysia-opens-bidding-for-2-gw-of-large-scale-solar\/\">RFP <\/a>documents is required by the end of
