Wyoming Energy Authority Commences Plans for Regional Hydrogen Hub

The Wyoming Energy Authority has issued a request for proposals (RfP) for a prime contractor for the Western Inter-States Hydrogen Hub. The Hub is a proposed regional clean hydrogen hub that is to be developed by a team of four states.

The four states are Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. They signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the coordination and development of the hub in February. They will compete for part of the USD 8 billion that has been earmarked for the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Acts to create at least four regional hydrogen hubs.

The contractor will be responsible for applying for funding to the Department of Energy (D0E) and, if successful, will manage the implementation of the project.

In a press release on Thursday, Colorado governor Jared Polis said: “Our administration is well on our way toward achieving 100% renewable energy by 2040, so we are proud to be leading this group of western states to advance hydrogen power.”

Based on the announcement, the four states are well placed to become hydrogen hubs given their wind, solar and biomass resources, oil and natural gas industry, energy transportation infrastructure, and carbon management infrastructure with favourable geologies and regulatory structures.
