Xodus Secures Land in Australia for Green Hydrogen Project

  • Xodus secured land in Western Australia’s Oakajee SIA to develop the Warradarge Energy hydrogen and ammonia project.
  • The project aims to scale into ammonia exports, backed by 16,000+ hectares of land, wind power agreements, and new tax incentives for green hydrogen production.

Energy consultancy Xodus has secured land in Western Australia’s Oakajee Strategic Industrial Area (SIA), advancing plans for a large-scale renewable hydrogen and ammonia project under the new name Warradarge Energy.

Previously known as Project MercurHy, the initiative will roll out in two key phases. The first phase targets domestic hydrogen supply to support decarbonisation in mining and heavy transport, with a future ambition to expand into ammonia exports, leveraging Oakajee’s strategic coastal location for international shipping.

Meanwhile, Warradarge Energy has already secured over 16,000 hectares of land at Warradarge. Negotiations are underway to secure renewable power from a nearby wind farm, and offtake agreements are in place, setting the foundation for long-term project viability.

Xodus Asia Pacific vice-president Simon Allison called the land allocation “a major step forward” for the project and Australia’s clean hydrogen ambitions. “Xodus has led the project’s feasibility, concept design, and integration of renewables,” he said, emphasising the consultancy’s hands-on role in shaping a scalable and technically sound hydrogen supply chain.

Warradarge Energy CEO Stephen Archer added that the project addresses the critical need for commercial-scale green hydrogen facilities that can bridge the gap between pilot projects and gigawatt-scale developments. “This project is about accelerating the supply chain, minimising technology risks and driving down costs,” Archer said.

Furthermore, the Australian hydrogen market, valued at over A$225 billion (US$146 billion), is gaining momentum with a growing number of green hydrogen ventures. The Future Made in Australia initiative also fuels growth through a $2/kg hydrogen production tax credit, available from July 1, 2027, to June 30, 2040.

With strategic partnerships, secured land, and strong government backing, Warradarge Energy is positioning itself as a flagship project in Australia’s push to become a global leader in clean hydrogen production and export.
