Zelestra Commissions San Martín Solar Project in Peru

  • Zelestra officially launched the 300 MW San Martín Solar Project on July 17 in Arequipa, Peru, with President Dina Boluarte and top officials.
  • The plant will power over 440,000 homes and cut 166,549 tons of CO₂ annually, marking a significant step in Peru’s energy transition.

Zelestra inaugurated the 300-megawatt San Martín Solar Project on Thursday, July 17, completing Peru’s largest solar power plant.

President Dina Boluarte and Energy and Mines Minister Jorge Luis Montero Cornejo led the launch event in La Joya, Arequipa. They joined Regional Governor Rohel Sánchez, Provincial Mayor Víctor Rivera, and other senior government officials to mark the milestone.

Zelestra built the project in less than 18 months through its in-house engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) team. During peak construction, the company employed over 900 workers and installed 450,000 solar panels.

Located in a high-irradiation zone in southern Peru, the San Martín plant generates more than 830 gigawatt-hours of clean electricity each year, enough to power over 440,000 homes. In addition, Zelestra estimates the project will cut carbon emissions by 166,549 tons annually.

“We congratulate the promoters of this megaproject,” said Minister Montero. “Thanks to our joint efforts with investors, we now strengthen our national electricity matrix’s security, sustainability, and diversity. This project fully supports Peru’s energy transition.”

Furthermore, Zelestra CEO for Latin America, José Luis García, said the plant helps position Latin America as a critical hub for global renewable growth. “With San Martín, we’re accelerating our roadmap. We’re showing that it’s possible to scale clean energy with real and lasting impact,” he said.

Zelestra signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Kallpa Generación to supply the energy from San Martín. This agreement supports Kallpa’s strategy to diversify its energy mix by integrating more renewable sources.

By commissioning San Martín, Zelestra has reinforced its role in Peru’s clean energy future while contributing directly to its climate and development goals.
