Zimbabwe: Locals Should Benefit from Solar Project First – MP

A Member of the House of National Assembly for Seke Constituency, Munyaradzi Kashambe, has stated that the Harava Solar Project set to be commissioned in Seke should benefit locals first. The solar project will add 20MW to the Zimbabwean national grid.

The Harava Solar Park is a 40MWac ground-mounted solar PV project developed in two stages of 20MW each. The first phase is set to be completed with the power being generated being evacuated to the grid via the Dema substation.

According to ti the MP, the solar project has brought territorial integrity to the Seke district. The energy generated should be supplied to district locals first before it is evacuated to the grid.

“It has given value to the constituency and also to the nation, but our expectation as a constituency is to see only local people getting employment as well as good school being built around such a big project, good clinics or a hospital as well as lighting up more of our facilities here as Seke before we take our electricity somewhere else. We are talking of our clinic, hospitals, growth points and schools because school are now e-learning, and that needs electricity,” he added.

The Harava solar plant will provide sustainable energy to over 45 000 households in Zimbabwe when fully complete.
