Zimbabwe, Mozambique Renews Energy Supply Agreement

  • EDM and ZESA renew bilateral power supply agreements.

According to a report from the Independent Daily “O Pais”, Mozambique’s publicly owned electricity company (EDM) and the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) have renewed their bilateral power supply agreement for the next three years, under which EDM will provide 50MW of energy to the neighbouring country.

The deal, signed by Marcelino Gildo, chairwoman of the EDM Board, and Howard Choga, ZESA Director of Transmission and Distribution, is a renewal of a previous contract that expired in December 2021. In the latest agreement, EDM might provide up to 150MW of non-firm power. According to an EDM press release, the two sides also discussed the possibilities of boosting bilateral cooperation, considering the continuous development of new power generation and transmission projects in Mozambique.
