- 600MW to be added to the grid when construction work is complete
- Work on existing units will increase output at the Hwange station
Zimbabwe’s Minister of Energy and Power Development Zhemu Soda has said works are currently on the way to increase the output of the Hwange thermal power plant. According to the Minister, the construction of units 7 and 8 of the plant will add 600MW to the national grid. On the other hand, rehabilitation works on the other units of the plant will increase the Hwange station’s output up to full capacity at 920MW.
“Government has taken steps to increase power at Hwange Thermal Power Station. Units 7 and 8 are expected to add 600 megawatts to the national grid when completed. We are also rehabilitating Units 1 to 6 to restore their total capacity to 920 megawatts because currently, the station is operating at half capacity”, Zhemu Soda said.
Zimbabwe is experiencing increased power cuts due to supply shortages.
