ZPC issues the first-quarter report
- Hwange Thermal station nears completion
- The project is expected to add 600MW to the grid
Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) has released the Quarter 1 (Q1) performance report. The report states that the country’s largest thermal plant, which is currently undergoing an expansion, suffered a setback on the expected time of completion. The report says the project is currently at 62.5% completion as opposed to a projected 85.9%. ”Hwange 7 and 8 Power Station Expansion Project, which is expected to add 600MW to the national grid, registered progress of 58,29 per cent at the beginning of the quarter and closed at 62,54 per cent against a planned progress of 85,9 per cent”.
According to the report, the project was impacted by the outstanding payments and the Covid19 pandemic. ”The project was affected by Interim Payment Certificate (IPC) outstanding payments as well as effects of Covid-19. Significant milestones in the quarter included arrival and hoisting of Unit 7 and 8 generator transformers, tower erection as well as steam turbine installation”, the report stated.
ZPC generated a total of 745,70GWh for the period in review, a 1,067.32GWh shortfall from the targeted 1813,02GWh.
