The Malilangwe Trust and Sustainable Agriculture Technology have launched a request for tenders to develop a 4.5 MWp solar PV plant near the town of Chiredzi. Under the tender, companies will carry out the design, engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and commissioning tests for the plant.
The selected company will implement the project in several phases. The first phase will involve constructing a 400 kWp unit with a 560 kWp Tesla Li-Ion battery storage system. This unit will also have a step-up transformer alongside a 33 kV power line. In the second phase, a second unit with a 1.1MWp capacity will be deployed. The electricity generated by both units will be sold to the private sector under a power purchase agreement (PPA).
In the third phase, 3 MWp will be developed to be sold to the Zimbabwe Electricity and Distribution Company (ZETDC) grid under an agreement with the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (Zesa).
The selected company may invest in the project via a 15 years Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) agreement. In phases 1 and 2, there is an option for a 47% stake in the BOOT agreement, and in phase 3, there is an option for a 33.3% stake in the BOOT agreement.
The deadline for tender application is June 30th, 2021
