Zimbabwe’s Energy Crisis Obstructs Water Supply

  • Zimbabwe suffers electricity crisis.
  • Residents of Bulawayo suffer lack of water supply due to this crisis.

Many residential areas have been without water for more than two weeks as a result of the council cutting off the supply due to current power shortages. The grim condition has spread beyond the city’s core, the mines, and the industrial zones. People protested that the local government’s water supply scheme was unfair to them. Bulawayo Town Clerk Christopher Dube said in a statement that the council has developed a water supply strategy to address the issues.

“The city of Bulawayo would like to advise its valued residents and stakeholders that after halting water supplies to all areas, we will embark on the water supply strategy below to restore supplies. The public is also made aware that this has become possible due to 36 hours of uninterrupted supply of power to our pump stations and treatment plants which enabled the city reservoirs to be temporarily stabilised,” said Dube.

The Town Clerk however said normal water supply resumptions will depend on the availability of electricity at both pump stations and treatment plants.
