Powering Futures: Powering Possibilities 2026 to Convene Africa’s Energy Leaders in Nairobi to Accelerate Africa’s Clean Energy Transition

 PRESS RELEASE

Nairobi, Kenya | 20-22 July 2026

As Africa stands at a defining moment in its energy transition and as countries worldwide shift from climate commitments to implementation, Africa has an unprecedented opportunity to leverage its abundant renewable resources, growing markets, and innovative capacity to build energy systems that are affordable, reliable, inclusive, and future-ready.

Against this backdrop, Powering Futures 2026 will serve as a premier platform for advancing practical solutions that strengthen energy security, accelerate investment, expand energy access, and position Africa as a leading contributor to the global energy transition.

Endosed by the World Energy Council Kenya, oEsslin, the Electricity Sector Association of Kenya (ESAK), and the Energy Council of South Africa, Powering Futures 2026 is designed to move beyond dialogue by fostering a collaborative environment where ideas evolve into actionable strategies that deliver measurable impact across the continent.

Taking place from 20–22 July 2026 at the Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya, the conference will bring together government leaders, policymakers, utilities, regulators, financiers, development partners, technology innovators, researchers, and private sector executives to shape the next chapter of Africa’s energy future.

Under the theme “Powering Futures: Powering Possibilities,” the conference recognises that Africa is no longer simply a region of untapped energy potential but an increasingly influential player whose decisions will shape global energy resilience, competitiveness, and sustainable development.

Africa’s energy transition must be defined not only by ambitious commitments but by practical implementation. Powering Futures 2026 is designed to foster partnerships, policies, financing models, and technological innovation needed to transform aspirations into lasting impact.

Throughout the three-day conference, delegates will engage in high-level policy dialogues, technical sessions, executive roundtables, investment discussions, and strategic networking events that address the continent’s most pressing energy priorities.

ADDRESSING AFRICA’S MOST CRITICAL ENERGY CHALLENGES

Powering Futures 2026 will examine the interconnected challenges and opportunities shaping Africa’s energy landscape, including:

  • Renewable energy integration and power system transformation
  • Electricity access, affordability, and reliability
  • Financing Africa’s energy transition
  • Digital finance, PAYGo systems, and innovative payment solutions
  • Utility reform and investment readiness
  • Regional electricity markets and cross-border transmission
  • Hydrogen and emerging clean energy value chains
  • Energy data, modelling, and evidence-based planning
  • Productive use of electricity to stimulate economic growth
  • Governance, policy coherence, and institutional accountability
  • Positioning Africa for stronger leadership within global energy governance.

Rather than treating these issues independently, the conference adopts a systems approach, recognising that infrastructure, finance, digital technology, policy, and market development must work together to achieve sustainable energy transformation.

FROM DIALOGUE TO DELIVERY

A distinguishing feature of Powering Futures 2026 is its strong emphasis on implementation.

The conference has been carefully designed to facilitate practical collaboration among governments, utilities, investors, development finance institutions, regulators, technology providers, academia, and civil society. Participants will work together to identify realistic pathways to accelerate project delivery, strengthen regulatory frameworks, improve utility performance, mobilise investment, and expand access to reliable electricity across urban, peri-urban, and rural communities.

Discussions will explore how innovative financing mechanisms, blended capital, digital payment systems, and integrated planning can create resilient energy ecosystems that support industrial development, job creation, and inclusive economic growth.

EXPERT WORKSHOPS TO STRENGTHEN IMPLEMENTATION

Ahead of the main conference, delegates will have the opportunity to participate in specialised executive workshops designed to provide practical knowledge and deepen collaboration on priority areas.

The workshops include:

  • FinTech, Payments and Financial Systems for Scalable Energy Access, examining how digital finance can improve affordability, strengthen utility revenues, and expand electricity access.
  • Energy Data, Modelling and System Decisions for Africa’s Power Transition, exploring how data-driven planning can improve investment decisions and energy system design.
  • Bridging the Evidence-Policy Gap for Africa’s Energy Transformation, highlighting how implementation experience can strengthen policy development and investment decisions.
  • Democratic Integrity, Governance Accountability and Political Stability in Africa’s Energy Transition, examining the role of governance, institutional resilience, and public trust in delivering a just energy transition.

These workshops will generate recommendations that feed directly into the conference’s strategic discussions and policy outcomes.

BUILDING AFRICA’S GLOBAL ENERGY VOICE

Delegates will work towards establishing a shared continental position on energy access, financing, renewable energy deployment, industrial competitiveness, digital innovation, and global energy security. These discussions will reinforce Africa’s role as an active contributor to shaping international energy policy rather than simply responding to global developments.

WHY POWERING FUTURES 2026 MATTERS

Powering Futures 2026 comes at a pivotal time for Africa’s energy sector.

Rapid population growth, increasing electricity demand, expanding renewable energy opportunities, digital innovation, and growing international investment have created unprecedented momentum for transformation. At the same time, challenges relating to infrastructure financing, energy access, regulatory reform, and market integration require stronger collaboration across governments, industry, and development partners.

The conference provides a platform where these stakeholders can collectively design solutions that improve energy access, enhance affordability, strengthen investment confidence, accelerate decarbonisation, and unlock economic opportunities for millions of Africans. By connecting industry leaders across the energy ecosystem, Powering Futures 2026 aims to catalyse partnerships that extend far beyond the conference itself.

Registration for Powering Futures 2026 is now open.

Delegates will receive access to keynote sessions, technical discussions, networking events, innovation showcases, conference materials, and post-conference reports. Participants can also register for an optional geothermal site visit offering first-hand insights into one of Kenya’s leading renewable energy facilities.
