Ikeja Electric has appointed Mrs Ogochukwu Onyelucheya as Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective July 1, 2026, as the electricity distribution company moves to accelerate growth, innovation and service delivery.

The appointment follows the transition of Mrs Folake Soetan, who has led the company since 2020. She will now take on broader strategic responsibilities across Sahara Group’s power and upstream businesses.

Chairman of Ikeja Electric, Kola Adesina, announced the appointment. He praised Soetan for transforming the company during her tenure.

According to Adesina, Soetan strengthened operational performance, improved customer service and increased stakeholder confidence.

“Folake has been instrumental in transforming Ikeja Electric into a more resilient, customer-focused and performance-driven organisation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Soetan thanked the Board and staff for the opportunity to lead the company. She said, “It has been an honour to lead Ikeja Electric and work alongside a team committed to delivering value to customers and communities.”

She added that she looks forward to supporting Sahara Group‘s vision of delivering sustainable energy solutions across Africa in her new role.

The Board also expressed confidence in Onyelucheya’s ability to lead the company.

Adesina said she has the experience and leadership skills needed to build on the company’s achievements. “Ogochukwu brings a compelling blend of leadership experience, strategic clarity and execution discipline,” he said.

Onyelucheya has more than 20 years of experience in the banking and energy sectors.

During her career, she has led business transformation projects, improved financial systems and introduced digital processes to increase efficiency. She has also worked on reducing operational losses and improving business performance.

In addition, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Nnamdi Azikiwe University and a Master’s degree in Finance and Financial Law from the University of London. She also completed executive education at Harvard Business School.

Speaking on her appointment, Onyelucheya promised to build on the company’s progress. “Our focus remains on delivering improved service, deepening customer trust and driving sustainable performance as we continue to create value for all stakeholders,” she said.

Finally, Adesina said the leadership transition reflects Ikeja Electric’s commitment to continuity, operational excellence and reliable electricity supply.

He added that the new leadership team will continue to improve customer experience, strengthen stakeholder confidence and create value for customers, employees, regulators, investors and host communities.
