The Sierra Leonian Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education has been gifted 20,000 solar lamps by Sewa Energy Resources Limited (SERL). The donation was made to officials from the ministry on the 7th of April, in Freetown. The solar lamps were donated to support the ministry’s Free Quality Education (FQE) campaign especially to rural school children.
In improving free education, the lamps would help serve as lighting to children in communities with no electricity access when they study, thereby increasing literacy. Kofi Macauley, the Chief Executive Officer of Sewa Energy stated, ‘this donation is just the start to a long-term partnership withy the ministry in providing and securing that clean energy and affordable energy is accessible to schools in deprived communities across the country.’
He added that as a local company, Sewa Energy’s goal is to support development across the country as part of the company’s social responsibility. The Chief Director of Energy in the Ministry of Energy thanked the company for their dedication in securing energy in the country.
