Algeria, Germany Partners on Low-Carbon Gas and Green Hydrogen

  • Algeria and Germany deepen energy cooperation in hydrocarbons and low-carbon technologies, advancing joint projects on gas, hydrogen, and methane emission reduction.
  • Both countries expand technical partnerships and industrial collaboration, focusing on technology transfer, emissions reduction, and capacity building in the energy sector.

The Ministry of Hydrocarbons (Algeria) has strengthened energy cooperation with Germany following high-level talks in Algiers. Miloud Medjelled received a German delegation led by Oliver Rentschler, alongside officials from German ministries and executives from companies such as Bosch, Siemens, and VNG.

Both sides reviewed progress in their strategic partnership in the energy sector. They noted advances in natural gas marketing, low-carbon technologies in gas production, and the development of a green hydrogen transport project supported by joint technical working groups.

They also discussed the TaqatHy+ project, which focuses on reducing methane emissions and limiting gas flaring. The project supports international climate commitments while promoting technological innovation and local expertise development.

Algeria emphasised the importance of expanding technical and scientific cooperation. It called for deeper collaboration in equipment manufacturing, industrial localisation, training, and human capacity development.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen cooperation through knowledge transfer, advanced production technologies, and sustainable energy solutions. They also agreed to continue developing joint projects that support energy transition goals and reduce greenhouse gas emission.
