- Equatorial Power teams up (GIZ) to provide solar energy to at least 27 health centres in Uganda.
- The project is expected to have an impact on the health of 250 people in the West Nile region
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Equitorial power partner to provide at least 27 health centres in rural areas in Uganda.
The 150 kWp total capacity of the small standalone solar power plants will be coupled to 1.2 MWh of battery storage systems. According to Equatorial Power, two hundred fifty people’s health in the West Nile region is anticipated to be impacted by the solarization of these clinics. Equatorial Power is expanding its presence in East Africa with this project.
The company, which has its headquarters in Kampala, Uganda, is engaged in the electrification of lake Victoria’s island communities. This is especially true of Lolwe, an island measuring 68,000 km2. The business, led by Riccardo Ridolfi, has recently been running a 600 kWp solar photovoltaic plant-powered mini-electricity network.
Additionally, the business has set up mini-grids in Tanzania, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Equatorial Power and the investment firm InfraCo Africa recently agreed to install and run solar mini-grids in Rwanda and the DRC for $1.7 million.
