If there were a power outage in your neighbourhood, which would you miss the most?

Over the week, there have been series of power outages and blackouts in several parts of the world. Countries such as South Africa have been experiencing load shedding due to harsh weather conditions; California’s electricity hydropower generation capacity dropped owing to harsh drought conditions, and Nigeria’s generation capacity dropped as well. Should you encounter a power outage, which aspect of your routine would you miss the most?

From the poll that was conducted across The Electricity Hub’s social media platform, sixty (60) per cent of the voters opined that they would miss charging their devices; twenty-two (22) per cent chose lighting as what they would miss; fourteen (14) per cent chose others representing the usage of electrical appliances such as ironing, washing and cooking etc.; while the lowest votes (not up to a per cent) chose watching television as what they would miss should there be a power outage.

Given that this is the era of gadgets and smartphones, it is no wonder that charging devices would take priority should there be a power outage.

Communication has never been easier as technological devices have opened up several media to connect with millions of other persons with a device, internet, and power source.

One can not separate electricity from technology because it is needed to operate devices, equipment, and machines. Therefore, every aspect of our activities requires electricity to function.
