JMG Drives Solar Awareness in Lagos

  • JMG Limited promotes renewable energy through public engagement, using an engineering walk in Lagos to raise awareness about sustainable energy.
  • The initiative highlights integrated engineering solutions, showing how solar and other efficient systems can reduce energy costs and improve reliability.

JMG Limited intensified its advocacy for renewable energy by taking its campaign for sustainable engineering and solar adoption to the streets of Lagos. The company organised an Engineering Walk to deepen public awareness about inclusive energy solutions.

The event commemorated World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development. It began at JMG’s head office in Victoria Island and attracted engineering students from the University of Lagos and Yaba College of Technology, members of professional engineering bodies, influencers, and JMG employees.

Participants included members of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. They joined the initiative to promote sustainable engineering practices and broader solar adoption.

Rabi Jammal, JMG’s Chief Commercial Officer, explained that the campaign emphasises sustainable engineering. “We want to shine a light on a very important issue: sustainable engineering. It is about designing systems that are efficient, reliable, and built to last. Solar energy is one part of that conversation, but the bigger picture is how engineering can sustainably power our lives and industries,” she said.

JMG noted that rising energy costs and inconsistent electricity supply increase the need for engineering-driven solutions. These solutions reduce dependence on costly and environmentally harmful energy sources. Integrating cleaner energy options such as solar into broader engineering systems can strengthen sustainable infrastructure.

Furthermore, Jammal highlighted that JMG’s operations span power generation, electrical infrastructure, vertical transportation, cooling systems, and air compressors. It focuses on efficiency, reduced energy consumption, and environmental responsibility. She cited solar adoption as a key enabler, providing affordability, reliability, and compatibility across residential, commercial, and industrial systems.

The initiative also aims to extend access to sustainable solutions beyond large corporations to everyday Nigerians. This  includes residents in smaller homes and apartments. JMG has already powered its headquarters with solar energy to demonstrate practical implementation of sustainable engineering practices.

Fouad El Chami, JMG’s Plant Manager, reinforced the message: “Sustainable engineering is about continuous development, improving how we use energy and how we integrate new technologies into our systems. Solar plays an important role because it helps reduce overall consumption and supports a cleaner environment. Beyond that, it creates efficient, cost-effective engineering solutions that respond to today’s energy realities.”

Meanwhile, Chami added that integrated engineering solutions supported by cleaner energy sources are critical for addressing power supply challenges, rising costs, and environmental impact in homes and businesses.

Participants in the walk emphasised the importance of a unified approach to energy solutions driven by engineering innovation, sustainability, and accessibility.
