Koehler, CMB Target 1GW Wind Capacity with KB Renewables

  • Koehler Renewable Energy and CMB Energy launched KB Renewables to develop and operate wind power projects with a target of 1GW capacity by 2030.
  • The joint venture plans to own and manage new and existing wind farms while exploring future expansion of solar and battery storage.

Germany’s Koehler Renewable Energy and Denmark’s CMB Energy have created a joint venture, KB Renewables, to develop and operate wind power projects. The goal is to install 1 gigawatt of capacity by 2030.

Koehler owns 80% of the company, which was established in April, while CMB holds the remaining 20%. The partners said the venture could expand into solar and battery storage as it grows.

KB Renewables plans to build its wind projects and acquire existing and planned developments, focusing on long-term ownership and operation.

Dr Claus M. Brodersen, founder of CMB Energy and now managing director of KB Renewables, said Koehler brings the financial strength and strategic focus needed to accelerate growth. He will run the company alongside Nicolas Christoph, Koehler’s wind, solar, hydro and business development corporate director.

The venture will help supply clean electricity to Koehler Group through power purchase agreements and direct supply models.

“We aim to deliver solid, sustainable wind projects that contribute not just to profitability but also to energy security and decarbonisation across the Koehler Group’s operations,” Christoph said.
