Schneider Electric Calls for Sustainable Healthcare Investments

Schneider Electric has urged stakeholders to move renewable energy projects in Nigeria’s healthcare sector beyond donor-funded pilot schemes and toward commercially sustainable investments.

The company’s Regional Head of Access to Energy, West Africa, Tolutope Dada, made the call during a panel discussion in Abuja with representatives from the Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria and the World Health Organisation’s Climate, Health and Environment unit.

Dada said unreliable electricity continues to undermine healthcare delivery, particularly vaccine cold chains, diagnostic services and surgical care. He stressed that stakeholders must adopt innovative financing models to address the energy challenges affecting these essential services.

He advocated blended financing that distributes investment risks among the government, private sector and development partners. According to him, this approach can help healthcare renewable energy projects move from temporary donor support to sustainable commercial investments.

Dada also reaffirmed Schneider Electric’s commitment to expanding energy access across West Africa. He noted that the company has continued to expand its Access to Energy programme while engaging health and energy stakeholders across the region.

Since Schneider Electric launched the programme in 2009, it has reached more than 61 million people globally, surpassing its initial target of 50 million beneficiaries. The company aims to expand that reach to 100 million people by 2030.

The company’s Access to Energy portfolio includes the Mobiya, Homaya and Villaya product lines. These solutions use EcoStruxure-enabled remote monitoring and control to support electrification in healthcare, education, water, agriculture and microenterprises across underserved communities.
