South Africa Adds 147 MW Wind Power to the Energy Mix

  • Enel Green Power puts its Karusa wind farm into commercial operation.

South Africa’s independent power producer (IPP), Enel Green Power, has announced commissioning its Karusa wind farm. The farm will add 147MW to the national power grid to improve the electricity supply.

The project in Laingsburg in the Western Cape Province began construction in 2019. The subsidiary of the giant Enel has awarded the construction of the Karusa wind farm to Vestas Wind System. These wind turbines are estimated by Enel to have an annual output of 500 GWh.

The electricity produced is fed into the grid of the South African public utility Eskom under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
