- TANESCO raises new connection charges by 18%

Barely 24 hours following the executive order issued by President Samia Hassan putting an end to new connection charges waivers, the Tanzanian electric utility, Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has increased its connection charges by 18%.
TANESCO announced the new electricity tariffs which will take effect immediately. The new charges approved by the Energy and Water Utility Authority (EWURA) will affect the single, double and triple phase customers.
In a public notice issued by TANESCO, the utility announced the new charges for customers within 30, 70 and 120 meters from the electricity infrastructures. Consumers within 30 meters will be charges Tsh320,960 while, ”Connection charges for customers whose buildings are located at 70 and 120 metres from electricity infrastructures will stand at Sh515,618 and Sh696,670 respectively,” the notice reads.
