Gastech will move from Bangkok to Houston in September 2027, linking Asia’s growing energy demand with the United States’ expanding LNG supply.
The organisers marked the transition at the close of Gastech 2026 in Bangkok. Thailand’s Energy Minister Akanat Promphan handed hosting responsibilities to US Energy Deputy Secretary James P. Danly.
The transition connects major Asian consumption centres with one of the world’s leading gas production and export markets. Consequently, the move reflects deeper interdependence across global energy supply chains.
Thailand’s hosting placed energy demand, LNG security and infrastructure expansion at the centre of discussions. The country has pursued diversified supply sources as energy demand increases across Asia.
Promphan highlighted the commercial activity that Gastech generated in Bangkok. He also described the event as an important platform for regulators, policymakers and industry leaders.
“We have to come together, overcome the challenges,” Promphan said. He urged stakeholders to address existing problems while pursuing new opportunities across the energy sector.
The minister also emphasised natural gas’s role as renewable energy deployment expands. “Renewables, in a way, take time, take more investment, take capital, and gas is a stabilising force,” he said.
Meanwhile, Thailand continues to expand LNG infrastructure and secure long-term supply contracts. These measures support the country’s broader strategy for energy diversification and security.
Houston To Highlight Expanding US LNG Role
Houston will shift the conversation toward energy supply and the United States’ expanding LNG position. The city serves as a major centre for America’s oil and gas industry and its growing LNG export infrastructure. The United States now ranks as the world’s largest LNG exporter.
Rising domestic gas production and expanding Gulf Coast export capacity continue to reshape international LNG trade flows. Danly linked energy security to stronger cooperation between producers and consumers across global markets. He also supported international buyers signing long-term contracts with US LNG exporters.
“The shared ability for us to help one another meet those challenges is fundamental to what Gastech is,” Danly said. Furthermore, he highlighted Houston’s importance within the American energy system. “You can see the vitality of the American energy industry in Houston,” he said.
Danly connected Houston’s energy activity with the Trump administration’s energy dominance agenda. The agenda seeks affordable, reliable and secure domestic energy alongside expanded infrastructure.
Global Energy Demand Drives Closer Market Integration
The Bangkok-to-Houston transition reflects growing links between energy demand and supply across regions. Rapidly expanding consumption centres continue to drive demand for electricity, infrastructure and electrification. Meanwhile, North American production provides additional options for supply security and diversification.
However, expanding production also requires markets that can support long-term commercial relationships. The Gastech transition therefore highlights the need to align reliable supply with growing energy demand. It also reinforces the importance of investment, infrastructure and international cooperation.
Gastech 2027 will take place in Houston from September 14–17, 2027. The event will bring global energy leaders to a major production and export centre.
