Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has expanded its global footprint by establishing a new subsidiary in Kenya. The company announced the development on April 22, 2026, through disclosures to the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE Limited.
The subsidiary, Mwanga Transmission Company Limited, will serve as a Special Purpose Vehicle for the Kenya Transmission Public Private Partnership project. The company registered the entity under Kenya’s Companies Act, 2015, with incorporation completed on April 21, 2026.
Africa50 holds a 60% majority stake in the new company, while Power Grid Corporation holds 40%. This structure combines Africa50’s infrastructure investment expertise with POWERGRID’s technical capacity in power transmission.
The project operates under a Public Private Partnership model with Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited. It aims to strengthen Kenya’s electricity transmission network by attracting private capital and improving technical efficiency.
The initiative represents an important step in expanding reliable and efficient energy infrastructure across East Africa. In addition, it reflects POWERGRID’s broader strategy to pursue international opportunities and support sustainable energy development in emerging markets.
