- Three towers collapsed along the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga corridor during rain and wind, cutting supply to all 33kV outgoing feeders at the Keffi and Akwanga substations in Nasarawa State.
- TCN engineers have reached the site to assess the damage, and the company has promised updates as repair work progresses.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced on Thursday that three transmission towers collapsed along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga corridor. The collapse cut bulk electricity supply to the 132/33kV Keffi and Akwanga transmission substations in Nasarawa State.
What Happened
TCN blamed rainy and windy conditions for the collapse. The company named Towers T78, T79 and T80 as the fallen structures. It confirmed that all 33kV outgoing feeders at both substations have no power.
“At about 1606hrs yesterday, Wednesday, October 7, 2026, during rainy and windy conditions, the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line tripped on overcurrent relay protection,” TCN said in its statement.
Engineers then inspected the line. “Investigations revealed that three transmission towers have collapsed,” the company said. TCN added that it promptly isolated the line for safety.
Impact on Supply
The outage halts power distribution from both substations. “No load can therefore be nominated on the affected feeders on the interim,” TCN stated. Distribution companies cannot draw electricity through those feeders until repairs finish.
Restoration Efforts
TCN engineers have arrived at the site. They are assessing the damage and defining what the company needs to start restoration. TCN has not given a repair timeline or a cost estimate.
Customer Appeal
The company acknowledged the impact on customers. “The Company regrets the inconvenience this development will cause electricity customers taking supply from substations affected by the tower incident,” TCN said.
TCN asked for patience while crews work. “Please bear with us as we make every effort to ensure that necessary repairs are completed as quickly as possible to enable the restoration of bulk power supply,” the company said. TCN also pledged to share updates as restoration advances.
