Alcazar Energy Invests $500M in Balkans’ Largest Wind Farm

  • Alcazar Energy will invest USD 500 million in a 400-MW wind farm in North Macedonia, the largest in the Balkans.
  • Construction starts in late 2025, 75 km south of Skopje, with over 50 turbine generators.
  • The project aims to power 100,000 homes annually, significantly boost North Macedonia’s wind energy capacity, and create 630+ jobs during construction.

Alcazar Energy, a prominent sustainable infrastructure investor based in Dubai, announced plans to invest over USD 500 million (EUR 466m) to construct a substantial 400-MW wind farm in North Macedonia. This ambitious project represents the largest wind energy initiative ever undertaken in the Balkan region.

It is a vital part of Alcazar’s strategy to establish a leading renewable energy platform throughout the Western Balkans, involving nearly USD 1 billion in total investment.

Alcazar aims to begin constructing the wind farm 75 kilometres south of Skopje in late 2025. The facility will feature over 50 turbine generators designed to harness Macedonia’s abundant wind resources. Once operational, this facility is projected to annually supply clean electricity to over 100,000 households, significantly augmenting North Macedonia’s current wind energy capacity by nearly fivefold.

Moreover, the project aims to generate upwards of 630 employment opportunities during its construction phase alone, contributing to local economic development.

Daniel Calderon, co-founder and managing partner of Alcazar Energy, emphasised the promising investment prospects in North Macedonia’s renewable energy sector. He highlighted the country’s commitment to phase out coal-fired power and achieve a target of deploying 1.7 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

This initiative aligns seamlessly with Alcazar’s mission to support sustainable energy transitions across the region.

Furthermore, leveraging North Macedonia’s extensive grid connections with neighbouring countries such as Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Kosovo, Alcazar aims to address regional power shortages and facilitate the seamless transmission of renewable energy across the Western Balkans and Southeast Europe.

This strategic approach underscores Alcazar’s dedication to fostering regional energy security and sustainability through impactful infrastructure investments.
