KP Engineering Partners With Agra for Aviation Fuel

  • The solution is to produce sustainable aviation fuel or renewable diesel, produced entirely from effluent waste from dairy farms.
  • Agra Energy anticipates partnering with KPE to further optimise for subsequent units as they scale.

KP Engineering (KPE), an engineering firm providing solutions for the refining, syngas, hydrogen and renewable fuel industries, has been selected as the engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction management (EPFCm) partner for Agra Energy’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plants.

These gas-to-liquids (GTL) units would produce sustainable aviation fuel or renewable diesel, produced entirely from effluent waste from dairy farms. The Chief Executive Officer of KPE, William Preston, said this technology, converting waste to value, will fundamentally improve the operational sustainability of dairy farmers in America and abroad.

The Chief Executive Officer of Agra Energy, Tony Long, added, “Working with KP Engineering has been instrumental in our operational know-how, start up and commissioning. Now that the first unit is producing, we look forward to partnering with KPE to further optimise for the second, third and many units to come as we scale. This will offer benefits to farms and communities in building a better world.”

KPE’s scope of work consists of commissioning and start-up assistance on Agra’s first plant, incorporating lessons learned into the design for succeeding units, incorporating SAF production capability into that design, updating the total installed cost estimate and executing the full EPFCm on the second plant.

When completed and operational, the second plant would produce between 40 and 60 barrels per day of renewable fuel. The second plant would begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2024. This award comes from KPE’s successful relationship with Agra and its unique engineering, procurement and modular fabrication capabilities as part of the Shaw Group.
